A 6th generation family business, Nawal Kishore Akshay Kumar was established in 1911 and has provided wool to traditional cottage weavers since the pre-independence era.

The business has since added mill spun yarns to produce carpets, rugs and blankets for army and civil use. It has created a niche along the hallways of yarns and yarn spinning, and produces exquisite yarns that are supplied to furnishing design hubs across India.

After experience gained over a 100 years, the 7th generation decided it was time to launch Baroque Designs in 2015.

Our Ideology

The art of handweaving has been passed on, for generations and centuries, in the families of Indian artisans. At Baroque Designs, our aim is to promote Indian craftsmanship while supporting our expert artisans in creating quality lives for their families.

Inspired by art and culture across the world, we regularly explore techniques to develop extraordinary products for the new age, style conscious customers, in addition to harnessing traditional methods and designs.

As a family owned business, we at Baroque Designs, take pride in producing high-quality home furnishing products using classic hand weaving techniques and rare artful accents to tell a tale that is both timeless and personal.

    DESIGN DIRECTOR

    With over a decade of experience working for international names such as Harper’s Bazaar and Grazia, Gul has developed a rare flair for global trends. Her minimal and chic aesthetic reflects in our products.

  • Shamim Akhtar

    MASTER WEAVER

    With experience spanning several decades, our beloved “Masterji” has been with Baroque Designs since inception. He has been a driving force with a knack for developing intricate designs and quality products.

  • Madan Lal

    PRODUCTION HEAD

    Belonging to "Sitapur", a city famous for it's hand weaving, he started weaving at a young age and has mastered the art of cut-shuttle weaving. Madan is also the jack of all trades and oversees the complete production process.
